Scandinavia as a Tourist Destination

With each passing year, Scandinavia is attracting more than avid snowboarders and daring skiers. It’s quickly becoming a popular tourist destination for people attracted to the beautiful snow-capped mountains, icy slopes, and hygge. However, you don’t have to be a mountaineer to enjoy the Scandinavian countries. Cities like Copenhagen and Stockholm boast sophistication and stunning architecture. All things Scandinavian are being so popular that the Scandinavian aesthetic has also created a whole style and theme of interior design, favoured by people across the world. Explore The Canvas Art Factory collection for canvas prints of Scandinavian cities sitting on an abundance of water, with a backdrop of the lush green environment.

Popular Destinations

Whether in the icy cold or summer seasons, the Scandinavian countries boast unique sights. We’ve picked out some of the best sights around Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and more, bringing the best quality work to your home. Scattered through Scandinavian cities are museums, coffee shops, and on the outside are fairy-tale-like villages and towns.

Copenhagen, Denmark

One of Scandinavia’s most beautiful cities is argued to be Copenhagen. This is thanks to the stunning architecture in the vein of the Dutch Renaissance style. Copenhagen has, however, architecture that has gone through the Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles of architecture. The city boasts charming canals, trendy cafes, and fairy-tale-like settings.

Bergen, Norway

Picturesque Bergen is sure to inspire you, despite being one of the rainiest cities in the world. The brightly coloured residential buildings, complete with small white boats in the foreground and mammoth green Seven Mountains in the backdrop, is a sight worthy to grace the walls of your home. Bergen faces the fjord. One element making Norway’s second-biggest city one of its most beautiful are the old wooden houses that sit on the waterfront.

Gothenburg, Sweden

Gothenburg is an industrial port known for its stunning archipelagos. The islands are car-free, and to reach them one must take the ferry. Sprinkled around the islands are fishermen and fishing boats. Many of the islands are remote yet open to visitors.

Stockholm, Sweden

Sweden’s capital city Stockholm has attracted photographers thanks to its waterfront buildings and stunning old towns. Stockholm’s architecture is in the fashion of neoclassicism. The city has few skyscrapers compared to other cities around the world. It’s a city whose architects were inspired by art from abroad, making Stockholm look immensely unique. Some of the architecture can be seen in the ArkDes museum, Gamla Stan (Old Town), and Ostermalm Market Hall.

Scandinavian Art

From Sweden to Norway and Denmark, here are some of the best-known artists from Scandinavia.

Edvard Munch

Edvard Munch was a painter from Norway. The Scream is his most famous painting, and one of the best-known artworks around the world. It’s known for its melancholy colours and frighteningly stark figure. The Scream is the Mona Lisa of the Nordic countries.

Carl Larsson

The Swedish artist Carl Larsson is known for his use of bright colours, watercolours depicting family life, and a representative of the Arts and Culture movement of the late nineteenth century in Europe. The Swedish painter’s best-known works depict his house, painting it in such a warm and inviting tone that it makes one want to live in it! seen in his artworks Karin and Brita (1893) Getting Ready for a Game (1901). His work is spread through Sweden, from the frescoes he painted for the Stockholm Opera to his masterpiece showing in the Swedish National Gallery.

Jens Haaning

Jens Haaning is a Danish conceptual painter who once created an artwork fittingly titled Take the Money and Run (2021). Fitting because that is exactly what Haaning did with the $84,000 the Danish government lent him, and he submitted to the country’s modern art gallery two blank canvases. Haaning has created art since the 1990s which often commented on societal changes he found in the West.
